The United States government has no higher responsibility than to serve and protect its citizens, including those who reside or are temporarily abroad. To this end, the American Citizen Services Unit in Belize provides prompt, courteous, and efficient services to United States Citizens and other clients, consistent with U.S. laws and regulations. The US Embassy and Consulates in Belize provide a wide range of services to foreign citizens traveling or residing in Belize, including applications for passports, registration of citizens living in Belize, information on voter's registration, notarial services for documents to be used in the home country, and certain emergency services relating to deaths, arrests, and temporary destitution.

Canadian Embassies in Belize provides information and consular assistance to the Canadian public when and as required. They assist and provide information to Canadian business people and investors on commercial opportunities in Belize. They also provide services to those Belizes wishing to visit, study, and work or immigrate to Canada. In Belize, the only office providing services to obtain temporary resident visas (tourists), work permits, study permits, immigrant visas and the travel document to re-enter Canada is the Immigration Section of The Canadian Embassy in Belize which is located at:

Emergency Services Include
Consular officers monitor the general welfare of United States citizens in Belize. In this area, our services include:
• Making inquiries of local authorities about missing U.S. citizens.
• Helping indigent Americans find sources of funds for subsistence or temporary shelter, such as at the Salvation Army home for men and for women.
• Monitoring the welfare of children involved in child custody disputes when the child is in Belize.
• Visiting incarcerated U.S. citizens periodically and giving them information on local attorneys;
• Coordinating the repatriation to the United States of destitute U.S. citizens.
• Providing appropriate and necessary assistance to U.S. citizens who are the victims of accidents and natural or manmade disasters.
